The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Introduction
Stasia Bliss is a freelance writer and a model, as well as the Senior Editor of Health and Science at The Guardian Express, an online magazine that could easily rival the quackery of Huffington Post. According to her her Twitter profile, she describes herself as a “master alchemist”. According to her Linkedin profile page, she is a High Priestess of Qi Vesta. Presumably, this is a title she herself invented as the only hits on Google are from her writings. She has received her education at places that include the Academy of Alchemy and The School of Natural Healing (the latter promoting homeopathy, reflexology and iridiology).
In addition, she has written the book The Chocolate Fast, where she promotes a 24 hour chocolate fast as a “metaphor and even a portal into the acceptance of our inner bliss”. On her Youtube channel, we can find a video with her explaining how alternate nostril breathing cause “whole-brain activation” (together with left/right brain nosense).
As will be demonstrated beyond all reasonable doubt in this article series, Stasia Bliss promotes a wide range of pseudoscientific beliefs on cystic fibrosis, DNA and human evolution, dark matter, the sun and the moon, human cognition, quantum mechanics, HIV/AIDS, tobacco and homebirth. The articles series will consist of ten installments (links will appear as each new part is published), each taking on a separate category of crank claims:
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part I: Cystic Fibrosis
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part II: Genetically Modified Foods
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part III: Sun and Moon
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part IV: DNA and Evolution
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part V: Dark Matter
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part VI: Quantum Mechanics
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part VII: Disease
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part VIII: HIV/AIDS
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part IX: Ageing and Death
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Part X: Measles
The Scientific Ignorance of Stasia Bliss – Addendum
This just scratches the surface and a lot more can be written about the lack of scientific credibility of her claims, but you have to stop somewhere. Hopefully this series will help to prevent unsuspecting people falling for her misleading claims about these topics.
